Council member Eddie Burks is a life-long Randolph County resident whose first role in local government was as Mayor of Franklinville from 1987-1989. He was elected to Asheboro City Council in 2007, and currently serves on the Public Works Committee.
Burks is the owner of a small business, but he still finds time for a wide range of community involvement. He is a deacon at Bailey’s Grove Baptist Church, a member and former president of Asheboro Kiwanis and was the immediate past chairman of Randolph County Crime Stoppers. He also serves on an advisory board for Salvation Army, on the Board of Directors for Randolph County United Way, on an advisory board for First Bank and on a fund-raising committee for Habitat for Humanity.
In his professional life Burks is the owner of an advertising, research and media placement agency. Prior to this, he worked in advertising sales.
Burks loves serving on City Council because of the opportunity to help people. “People come to you with needs all the time, and if you’re able to make someone’s life better – it’s a blessing. Sometimes people simply need a sounding board, and it’s gratifying when you can listen and find some way to help.”
Burks hopes the future of Asheboro holds more employment opportunities, more utilization of vacant buildings and a greater cultural impact.
