Police - k-9
The Asheboro Police Department currently has two police canines assigned to various units throughout the department. The two canines are dual purpose and trained in patrol work and narcotics detection.
Department canines are certified through national certifying bodies. The department requires that each canine team complete 16 hours of in-service training each month and a yearly certification through an outside certifying body. The canine teams are utilized by the department to conduct evidence/article searches, narcotics sniffs, tracking/trailing of suspects or missing persons, building searches, area searches, and apprehension of suspects.
Asheboro Police Department canines routinely provide canine demonstrations to educate the community about the capabilities of their canines. If you would like to schedule a canine demonstration feel free to contact Sgt. R.L. Brown, Jr. at 336-626-1313.
