Redevelopment Commission

Redevelopment Commission
The Redevelopment Commission, created by state resolution in 1971, consists of eight members.  For more information about the Redevelopment Commission, please refer to §160A-504 of the North Carolina General Statutes.

The commission meets regularly on the first Monday of the month at 9:00 a.m. in the Council Chamber of the City of Asheboro Municipal Building.  A hard copy archive of meeting minutes is available to the public at City Hall; for more information, please contact Brad Morton at 336-626-1201 x 212 or bmorton@ci.asheboro.nc.us.

2018 Urgent Repair Program (URP)

The city has received funding from the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency for an emergency housing repair program (provided with funds from the North Carolina Housing Trust Fund through the agency). It is anticipated that 13 owner-occupied homes will be rehabilitated with Urgent Repair Program (URP) funds.

Goals

The goals of URP are:
  • To alleviate owner-occupied housing conditions which pose an imminent threat to the life and safety of very low-income homeowners
  • To provide necessary repairs to prevent eligible, very low-income homeowners from having to relocate

Eligibility:

Household income at least 50% or below the area median income AND at least one of the following:
  • Children in household with an elevated level of lead in their blood
  • Elderly household members at least 62 years old
  • Handicapped/disabled members
  • Households with 5 or more persons
  • Single parents
  • Veteran(s) in household

2018-2023 Central Business District Redevelopment Plan

North Carolina Urban Redevelopment Law, N.C.G.S. 160A-500 et seq., provides a mechanism to empower and assist local governments in efforts to promote programs of redevelopment in areas suffering from blight. On October 2, 2017, the City of Asheboro Planning Board deliberated and
certified the area identified by Randolph County Parcel Identification Numbers 7751726479, 7751725650, 7751738346, 7751831174 and 7751733983, and inclusive of all adjacent streets and right-of-ways, a Redevelopment Area and directed the City of Asheboro Redevelopment Commission to prepare a redevelopment plan. After two public hearings and a review by the City's Planning Board, the plan was formally adopted on June 7, 2018 and is available for download HERE.
